IPL Photofacial: Is it the best for you?

IPL therapy, sometimes called a Photofacial, uses intense pulsed light (hence the abbreviation IPL) targeting pigment in the skin and works magic on it. IPL is one of our favorite treatments at Radiance because the results are nothing short of magical.

IPL targets the brown and excessive red pigments in the skin. These pigments can come from sun damage, broken capillaries and rosacea. Once treated, our clients start to look better immediately after the treatment and continue to improve for 3 to 7 days. Spots will immediately start turning dark and flake away over the course of a few days and your skin will look beautiful in about a week.

What does IPL Photofacial treat?

  • Sun damage, like brown freckling caused by sun exposure
  • Rosacea
  • Broken capillaries
  • Cherry angiomas

IPL Photofacial works best and safely treats skin types one, two and three. Unfortunately, IPL can not be done on melasma (large dark patches) or darker skin types because of the risk of burns or causing rebound melasma. (Click here for a great treatment for melasma: PRX-T33.)

IPL and Photofacial Results

What areas can IPL Photofacial treat?

We been getting great results for years on:

  • Faces
  • Necks
  • Chests
  • Arms and hands
  • Legs

What does my treatment series look like?

A consultation is needed to really say for sure but we recommend all clients start with two IPL treatments and see how things look in 30 days. From there, we can make a treatment plan to keep your results looking great.

Recovery is Easy

Right after your treatment, spots will immediately start turning dark and this is the start of the healing process. For the next 3 to 7 days these spots will face and flake away with the final results showing up in about a week. During this time, you’re going to want to wear a high-quality sunscreen and try to not have long exposure in the sun. We can do this treatment anytime of year, but if you’re planning a beach trip, you might want to wait until you get back.

How to Keep Those Fantastic Results

If you are treating for redness/rosacea you will need to come in once every three months for a maintenance session to keep your skin looking amazing. We also recommend that you use Alastin Nectar daily to keep your redness in check. If your main concern is brown freckling, you will just need to come see us every 6 months for your maintenance session and add in Revision C+ and Revision Intellishade to maintain your clear, beautiful skin.

IPL is an amazing tool to help you look and feel your best. We’ve been doing this for nearly 15 years and treated thousands of clients. Come in today for a free consultation and we can develop a treatment plan and help talk through any questions you have.
